Mediation Solicitors & Services

Do you want to agree on the arrangements for children and finances with your former partner but find it hard to speak with them constructively?

Mediation Lawyers provides professional help and a structured framework for your discussions to move forward. It is usually completed in 3 to 5 sessions. We aim to provide a flexible environment to allow you to achieve a tailored solution.

Our mediators are neutral. Although they are solicitors, they cannot give legal advice to you or your spouse/partner within the mediation process but will encourage each of you to consult with your own independent solicitor to draft a legally effective agreement at the end of it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Mediation is a process where a neutral third party helps you and your partner discuss and resolve disputes without going to court. A mediator doesn’t make decisions for you, but works to help you communicate with each other, understand the other person’s position and try to reach agreement. Mediation can deal with finance, child arrangements and property. For many couples it is quicker, cheaper and less stressful than going to court.

In some cases, courts may require you to at least attend a mediation information session before a hearing. However, you are not forced to reach an agreement during mediation. The main goal is to encourage discussion and explore solutions without litigation. Most people find mediation helps them resolve issues more amicably than going straight to court. Contact us in London, Manchester or Birmingham to make updates quickly and securely with professional advice.

It depends on how complex the issues are and how willing both parties are to compromise. Some straightforward cases can be resolved in one or two sessions, while more complicated financial or international issues may require several meetings. Sessions are usually 1–2 hours long. The great thing about mediation is that both parties can proceed at a pace that suits them.

You don’t have to, but having legal advice can help you understand your rights and options. People often attend with their solicitor, but you can also consult a lawyer before or after the sessions. It’s also possible to hire a lawyer to review any agreement you reach before signing it. This ensures it is fair and legally binding. Many people find that a combination of mediation and legal advice gives them greater confidence.

Mediation can cover finances, child arrangements, property disputes, and cohabitation issues. It cannot decide legal rights or enforce court orders, but it can create agreements that are later formalised. The focus is on finding solutions that work for both parties. Many people reach agreements they couldn’t achieve through formal court proceedings.
