Austin Chessell

Austin has been a member of Shortlands since 2008 and has developed extensive expertise in family law, specialising in children and financial matters. He works closely with clients to provide clear, practical advice and representation, helping them navigate complex legal issues with confidence while remaining focused on achieving positive outcomes for families.

Austin holds an LLB (2.1) and was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in 2009. Alongside his work as a solicitor, Austin is an experienced Family Mediator, having qualified in 2010 before achieving accreditation with both the Family Mediation Council and the Law Society in 2015. In the same year, he also became a Professional Practice Consultant (PPC), reflecting his commitment to supporting and developing fellow practitioners. More recently, in 2025, he qualified as a Family Law Supervisor, providing reflective practice and professional guidance to family lawyers while continuing to deliver a high standard of client care and expertise.
